In November-December 2001, in order to deepen teaching reform, improve students' ability of using information technology to solve practical problems, cultivate students' innovation ability and teamwork awareness, and create a learning environment for computer application technology, successfully approved by the computing center, the first Kunming University of Technology computer application contest - "Tsinghua Tongfang Cup" web design contest, was set up. It was held regularly every year for 17 years. In April 2018, it was actively preparing for the 17th Student Computing Application Contest of our school, which greatly stimulated the interest and potential of our students in learning computer technology knowledge and skills.
       From 2004 to 2009, Yunnan Provincial Department of Education organized the fourth Yunnan University Students Computer Application Contest. In 2013, the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education is hosting the China University Student Computer Design Contest in the Yunnan Division competition. In the previous provincial competitions, the Compute Center carefully selected the student team to participate in the competition on the basis of the school-level competition, and won numerous group first prizes and outstanding organizational awards, which fully demonstrated the students’ learning and application of computers in our school.
       In 2010, Computing Center first time selected the participate for the "China University Students Computer Design Competition." In the past eight years, students of our school have won 2 first-prize national awards, more than 10 second-prize awards, and several third-prize awards. Our school has also won the title of Excellent Organization School for its excellent organization work and excellent competitive results.
       In 2012, in order to improve the level of student competition, Computer Center selected 11 teachers who are full of rich teaching experience and strong technical skills to establish a “computer application competition team”. The team have provided guidance and advice for student production of works which broaden students' design ideas and improve practical application. At the same time, to help students to adapt to and familiarize themselves with the process of competitions in the country and Yunnan Province. Computer Center has developed an online registration system to allow students to submit and uploaded works with national competition standards, achieving remarkable results.
       After cultivation and practice for many years, KMUST has become a contest of academic competitions in school competitions, provincial competitions, and national competitions. It has selected and trained many excellent talents and created a good atmosphere for learning computer information technology, which is loved by students.
